Coastal Dunes of Baja California Peninsula: A Vital Ecosystem

In July, we had the privilege of hosting an engaging talk in collaboration with Dr. Natalia Rodríguez about the coastal dunes of the Baja California Peninsula. This event highlighted the importance of these unique ecosystems, which are essential for environmental balance and biodiversity.

During the presentation, we explored several crucial aspects of coastal dunes, starting with their vital role in the ecosystem. Dunes not only serve as habitats for a variety of species but also act as natural barriers, protecting coastlines from erosion and the impacts of climate change.

Dr. Rodríguez guided us through the location of these dunes on the Peninsula, emphasizing their ecological significance. We also discussed the astonishing diversity of insects and spiders that inhabit these areas.

These small yet vital organisms play a fundamental role in maintaining ecological balance by contributing to pollination and pest control.

To complement the theory, we conducted a field practice at Playa Juncalito, where we had the opportunity to closely observe the variety of plants and animals that coexist in this environment. The experience allowed us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of coastal dunes, reminding us of the need to protect and conserve these vital ecosystems.

At Conserva Loreto, we remain committed to the education and conservation of our natural heritage. We thank all participants and Dr. Natalia Rodríguez for her valuable contribution.
