Women in Science: Celebrating the Value of Protected Areas

In November 2023, Loreto witnessed an inspiring event titled "Women in Science: Value of Protected Areas." This event featured the participation of 12 women who were part of a female botanical expedition, conducted in collaboration with various government institutions and civil society organizations.

Of these brave explorers, 7 had the opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge through enriching presentations in Spanish to young women in the audience.

The presence and contribution of these women scientists highlighted the talent and dedication that characterizes the female botanical expedition.

Each presentation provided a window into the passion and commitment these women have towards exploring and conserving local flora and working with natural protected areas in different parts of the Baja California peninsula. The presentations covered a variety of topics, from sampling techniques to personal stories of challenges and discoveries in the field.

The event underscored the importance of protected areas and the need to conserve the biodiversity they harbor.

This gathering not only celebrated the achievements of women in science but also inspired the next generation of female scientists to continue exploring and protecting our natural world.

The collaboration between government institutions and civil society organizations was crucial to the success of the event, demonstrating the power of working together in promoting conservation and gender equality in science.

We deeply appreciate all participants and collaborators for their dedication and effort. "Women in Science: Value of Protected Areas" was more than an event; it was a celebration of the spirit of exploration, the value of conservation, and the power of collaboration.

We look forward to future editions and remain inspired by the work of these incredible women!
