Rare Plant Inventory in BCS
During the month of October, we carried out the first formal inventory of rare, endemic, and endangered plants in Baja California Sur, in collaboration with the Baja Rare project. This effort aims to document, highlight, and help protect the least-known and most vulnerable plant species of the peninsula.
This first inventory represents a milestone for Baja California Sur, laying the groundwork for the knowledge, monitoring, and conservation of its rare, endemic, and endangered flora.
This phase of the project brought together internationally recognized specialists, who contributed their expertise remotely. Participants included Jon Rebman (San Diego Natural History Museum), Glenn Ehrenberg (Baja Nativa), Augusto Olmos (SUVA Research), Abraham Sánchez (CIBNOR), and Mariana Delgado (Expediciones Botánicas).
Through this inventory, we seek to build a solid scientific database on the rare and endemic flora of Baja California Sur, assess its conservation status, and promote actions that strengthen its protection. This project represents a fundamental step toward preserving our biodiversity and expanding knowledge of regional ecosystems.
