Talk: “Let’s Protect the Blue Whale! No More Cruise Ships During Whale Season”
The “Let’s Protect the Blue Whale! No More Cruise Ships During Whale Season” talk was held to raise awareness about the citizen petition calling for the suspension of mega cruise ship arrivals in Loreto between December and April, a critical period when blue whales arrive in the bay to feed, rest, and care for their calves.
Loreto Bay is a vital refuge for the blue whale, and its protection is essential for the conservation of the largest animal on the planet.
The event highlighted the importance of Loreto Bay as one of the most significant sanctuaries for blue whales, as well as the risks they face from underwater noise and increased maritime traffic. Attendees listened to real sound recordings captured within Loreto Bay National Park, clearly demonstrating how noise pollution disrupts the behavior of these majestic marine mammals.

The petition, supported by scientific studies and international recommendations, seeks to protect one of Mexico’s most important marine sanctuaries and promote responsible management of human activities in the region.
