As part of the project “The Ecological and Cultural Value of Pitayas in Baja California Sur,” we opened the “Pitayas” photography exhibition, a space to learn about, appreciate, and recognize the importance of these species, which are so representative of our region.
Through photographs and content focused on their ecology, traditional uses, and relationship with local communities, the exhibition invites visitors to discover pitayas from different perspectives and recognize their importance to both the ecosystems and the culture of Baja California Sur.
The exhibition also incorporates the knowledge and contributions of Shane Macfarlan, whose work explores the traditional uses of pitayas and the relationship that communities in the region have maintained with these species over time.
Pitayas are part of our landscape, biodiversity, and also our collective memory and culture. Understanding their importance is another step toward valuing and conserving these species and the ecosystems they are part of.
