Science in Action on Isla del Carmen

Science in Action on Isla del Carmen

We began the year doing science on Isla del Carmen 🌊🔬, in collaboration with Dr. Scott Bennett from Portland State University and OVIS, as part of the project “Transdisciplinary Earth–Life Science and Education in the Gulf Islands”, supported by Next Generation Sonoran Desert Researchers.

This initiative, driven by the #NGenFieldGrants, integrates geology, biology, and conservation to better understand how the unique landscapes of Isla del Carmen and Isla Danzante have shaped the extraordinary diversity of life they host.

The islands of the Gulf of California are true natural laboratories 🌵🌊. Through fieldwork, education, and biocultural collaboration, we strengthen the connection between science and place, encouraging young people from the Sonoran Desert to actively engage in caring for their natural heritage. 💙
