As part of International Dark Sky Week, we had the opportunity to participate in a truly special experience in the community of San Cosme, where the night sky became a space for connection, learning, and community.
The evening brought together children, young people, and families for an experience that combined environmental education and astronomy with community activities.
We shared regional foods, camped beneath an exceptional night sky, and learned about the importance of preserving the natural darkness of the night and the ecosystems that depend on it.
These experiences remind us that conservation also means getting to know and valuing the natural elements that are part of our surroundings, including our night skies. Education and community participation are essential for raising awareness about the importance of protecting them from light pollution.
We would especially like to thank the Cielo Mágico Astronomy Club and the Menichipa Astronomy Club, as well as the students from CEB 5/2, for helping make this gathering possible and for sharing their enthusiasm for astronomy and science outreach.
We continue working together so that our communities can learn about, enjoy, and contribute to the conservation of their dark skies and the biodiversity that lives beneath them.
